THE MYTH OF THE STAINLESS STEEL PANEL

There are some overpriced pools in the market that need some reason to claim they are superior to the other pools on the market.

Usually, there is a good reason.
Examples of good reasons are:

  1. Material the pool is made from, i.e., steel, resin, aluminum; extruded aluminum   (ascending order)
  2. The wideness of the frames upright and top rails (i.e. 6 in; 7 in; 9 in) in ascending order

Steel walls do rot after time, but they are usually not the first thing to go on a pool. Before the wall goes, the skimmer may need replacing;

The liner will give out; in a steel frame pool the bottom rails may rot; the bottom of the wall may rot. IT IS UNUSUAL FOR A POOL TO ROT AROUND THE SKIMMER

The reason it is unusual is that the skimmer has gaskets on both sides of the wall that make it water tight. Usually after time, you replace a gasket for the skimmer, or the skimmer. A stainless steel panel there is redundant and useless. That is why we do not sell them on our pools. If you want to put a little extra into a pool, upgrade to an all aluminum pool , which come with lifetime warranties (see the Atlantis at www.redspools.com/) or for the most superior pool, the Queen Georgia at http://www.redspools.com/swimming-pools/semi-in-ground-swimming-pools/queen-georgia-ez-panel-oval-swimming-pool.html)

Helpful Hints…..At Reds Pools and Patio Furniture, we offer a great swimming pool selection and choice of different types of swimming pools and pool sizes that range from 8 feet in diameter to 33 ft in diameter and also oval pools and oval swimming pools. Above ground pools and swimming pools and in ground pools and in ground pool and in ground swimming pools of all sizes and shape we have kidney shaped swimming pool and oval pools. In our in ground and inground pool selection of swimming pools we are offering rectangular in ground pools and in ground rectangular pools in 2 foot and 4 ft radius rectangular in ground pool kits . These pools all come with vinyl pool liners and the swimming pool liner is 20 mil and 20 gauge depending on terminology. Our selection of swimming pools and low discount prices are the best in the swimming pool industry. What is needed to assemble a swimming pool is a pool site for your swimming pool. The ground should be fairly level before attempting to install or assemble your pool or swimming pool, above ground or in ground swimming pool. Whether it is vinyl liner resin wall pool, resin swimming pool, round resin pool, resin oval, resin oval pool and resin oval swimming pools, we have swimming pool filters and swimming pool ladders and pool skimmers and swimming pool chemicals that are right for your home backyard swimming pool.

Reds has resin and resin swimming pools, aluminum swim pools and pool and extruded aluminum swimming pools, round swimming pools aluminum and aluminum oval pools. In ground aluminum pools and aluminum swimming pools in ground and inground and semi in ground pools, where you sink your swimming pool 2 feet into the ground and then assemble a deck around the pool that is 2 ft above grade.

To protect your new swimming pool we have pool covers, you should cover your pool every day as swimming pools tend to get dirt accumulating on the pool bottom. Our solution for keeping the pool liner clean and you swimming pool water sparkling and refreshing is to cover with a solar cover, solar pool cover or solar pool blanket. Everyday covers have elastic to fasten the cover down so that it will not blow off in the wind. The covers come with cables and turnbuckles to fasten the covers securely on to your above ground swimming pool. Above ground swimming pool covers keep your pool clean and refreshing. Whether your above ground pool is steel wall, aluminum wall above ground pool or resin buttress less oval, reds has pool covers to fit your pool. You can get a safety cover , either a solid safety pool cover, solid mesh safety cover or solid mesh safety pool cover to cover your in ground or freeform pool or pool that has decking around the swimming pool. Mesh pool cover and mesh safety pool cover s allow water to come through the pool cover and the pool water is clean because the swimming pool water is filtered by the mesh as it comes through the cover. Unfortunately, dirt gets into your swimming pool water and you need to vacuum that dirt out. Winter pool chemicals and swimming pool winter chemical kits are available on reds pools website. You need also to cover the skimmer face with the skimmer winter plate when winterizing your swimming pool. If you have an in ground pool or inground swimming pool, the lines need to be free of water so that the swimming pool filter lines will not freeze over the winter months that you winterize your pool. You also need to specify when buying a safety pool cover or swimming pool safety cover exactly if the pool is a concrete deck swimming pool or a wood deck swimming pool. This will determine which anchors are used on the swimming pool safety cover and swimming pool safety cover.

With respect to swimming pool liners, it is most advisable if slack is left when liner is installed. There are many cases we hear of where homeowner hover over swimming pool installers when their swimming pools are being installed and insist that the swimming pool liner be free of wrinkles on the swimming pool liner floor or pool bottom. In these cases the overlap pool liner is overlapped a great deal over the swimming pool wall and you actually see some liners have way down the outside of the swimming pool, overlapped.

In these cases it will put undue stress of the seams of the swimming pool liner and when the base underneath the pool settles, the swimming pool liner will be under even more stress. For instance, if you buy a home, you know it “settles” after time and a home can get ceiling cracks, etc. So too a swimming pool settles, and to insure that the swimming pool liner is not under undue stress, we recommend the swimming pool liner be overlapped little and allow give and slack on the swimming pool liner despite a few wrinkles, which over time the wrinkles on the pool bottom will get smaller.

If you do get a leak on your pool liner, any leak can be patched and that is why the swimming pool liner manufacturers warranty the seams of the liner. This is because the seams of the liner cannot be patched, they must be re heat sealed in a heat sealing machine to bond the two pieces of swimming pool liner material.

How To Be Your Own Pool Man,
Save Money and Enjoy Your Own Swimming Pool

Maintaining a pool can be easy, provided you prepare in advance of anticipated contingencies that will arise in every swimming pool.

Your enemies are dirt, bacteria, algae and your own laziness.

How to combat dirt in your pool: Your weapons:

  1. I.                   Pool Filter-

This machine circulates the pool water taking out particles of dirt and returning only clean water to your swimming pool. In addition, it operates other appliances that clean or affect your pool, namely the skimmer, the vacuum, the automatic chlorinator (if you have one) the pool heater. There are 3 types of Swimming pool filters: Diatomaceous Earth Filters (DE); Sand Filters and Cartridge Filters.

Provided you run your filter right, it will keep your pool free of dirt and operate the skimmer and vacuum which fight the same battle. The skimmer takes the bugs and floating things of the pool surface and rushes them into the filter. The vacuum cleans debris off the pool bottom. Some vacuums are preprogrammed pool cleaners that clean the entire pool bottom automatically. Other vacuums are manually operated by the Pool Man. Both types send debris into the filter system and off the swimming pool floor.

If you notice, your filter has a pressure gauge, a round dial with numbers. When that dial reaches 15 psi it means the dirt is plentiful in your filter tank and the flow is slowing. So along with a higher number on your gauge , you will see lighter water flow from your filter return. What to do?

Maintaining a DE Swimming Pool Filter most DE filters are extended cycle models today, so in most cases a “bump” of the handle of  a Hayward Perflex filter will loosen caked on DE and dirt from the filter tubes inside the filter tank and  lower the filter pressure, thus increasing the return flow to the pool. This process will most likely need to be done once every two weeks. At some point you will have so much dirt in the tank it will need o be back flushed. There should be a ball valve near the tank bottom. With filter running, you open that valve and the dirt and a good part of your DE will flush out of the filter. You attach your vacuum hose or backwash hose to that valve to send the dirt away down a drain. You then close the valve and put some more water back into the pool if needed, and then you put DE into the skimmer with the filter running to replenish the DE.

In smaller DE filters use one 2 lb coffee can of DE or get premeasured bags of DE from your favorite pool store. If you need to replace the DE more than twice in one summer it is a lot.

Maintaining a Sand Swimming Pool Filter  Your backwash valve (that’s the thing with the handle attached to the top of the pool filter tank) has a port that says “backwash” or “waste or recycle “. When you need to backwash the sand filter, attach a vacuum hose or backwash hose to the backwash port, then turn the handle to “backwash”, the dirt that is trapped in the tank will be flushed out with the water. When the water clears ,go back to the “filter” selection on the valve, the water will revert back to filter cycle, i.e. to the return fitting on the pool and you are done. Immediately thereafter, if a cloud of dirt is seen being discharged into the pool, it is normal and will clear momentarily. Most people prefer to replace their sand annually, although it is not essential to the operation of the filter.

Maintaining a Cartridge Type Swimming Pool Filter  When a lot of dirt accumulates in the filter, the cartridge needs to be hosed down or changed. You can hose them down every couple of weeks, but change is recommended once a month. To change the cartridge, first unplug the electric to the pool filter; then the filter hoses must be disconnected from the swimming pool fittings, and then put over the top of the pool so water is not depleted from the swimming pool. After the cartridge is washed or changed, the hoses are reconnected to the filter and filtration may resume. Make sure when you plug the filter back in, that your hands are dry. www.redspools.com/filters/

II.                Vacuuming Your Swimming Pool

There  are two ways to vacuum your swimming pool. Manually or with an automatic pool cleaner (or both). The reality is that if you not have a swimming pool cleaner, then you are the swimming pool cleaner.

Auto Swimming Pool Cleaners That Runs Off Your Filter

Auto swimming pool cleaners like the Aspid ™ or the Aquabug™  have hoses that connect to the fitting that screws into the bottom of your in wall skimmer. The hoses need to be submerged entirely so that there is absolutely no air in the hoses when the hose is attached to the skimmer fitting. If there is air, the cleaner will not work as there will be no “prime”. When properly connected , the swimming pool cleaner will follow a preprogrammed path as it cleans the entire swimming  pool bottom on its own. The filter receives the dirty water and the filter is used to clean the water before it returns to the swimming  pool. Depending on the size of your swimming pool, these should run 3 to 5  hours a day . http://www.redspools.com/swimming-pool-vacuums-robots-pool-cleaners/

Auto Swimming Pool Cleaners That Have Self Contained Motors and Filters

Auto cleaners like the Storm™ , Pool Rover™, Aquabot™ or the Tiger™ have self contained motors that power the cleaner and also clean the water flow coming into to vacuum and then back into the pool. These have waterproof electric lines that are submergible, but remember, do not plug into an electric socket unless you have dry hands or you may get a shock Just drop them in the pool and watch them clean. http://www.redspools.com/swimming-pool-vacuums-robots-pool-cleaners/

Manual Swimming Pool Vacuuming

The better ones have weighted heads and telescopic poles. All models have hoses that connect to the fitting that screws into the bottom of your in wall skimmer. The hoses need to be submerged entirely so that there is absolutely no air in the hoses when the hose is attached to the pool skimmer fitting. If there is air, the vacuum will not work as there will be no “prime”. The best technique is to gently move the vacuum head across the pool bottom. If you go too fast or aggressively, the sediment on the swimming pool bottom will b stirred up into the water and then settles back down after you vacuum. So take it slow and steady and move it around where it is needed. If you do not have an automatic swimming pool cleaner, then you do this throughout the entire pool bottom. If you do not have an automatic swimming pool cleaner, then you move around slowly across the entire swimming pool bottom.http://www.redspools.com/swimming-pool-vacuums-robots-pool-cleaners/

III        Swimming Pool Chemicals

Ira The pool Man’s recipe for a cleaner healthier swimming pool is a 4 step approach:

You will need a 5 way swimming pool test kit; PH increaser; total alkalinity powder; Polymeric Algaecide (30 to 60%) ; Sparkle Clarifier; Chlorine

Step I; PH  adjust the acid and alkalinity in the swimming pool  so that the PH is between 7.2 and 7.8. Use a test kit as directed by the test kit to check the pool water. Then determine the gallonage of your pool and add the appropriate amount of  PH increaser chemical as directed on the PH plus bottle. As chlorine(CL)  combines with H20 (water) it creates HCL (hydrochloric Acid) which is the same chemical in our stomachs that kill bacteria. Well that is Acid and acid brings the PH down. Suffice it to say that if you wait long enough PH will go down naturally as more chlorine is added to the pool. To stabilize your PH add total alkalinity powder so that there are 80 to 150 ppm of total alkalinity in your swimming pool water. Total alkalinity is PH stabilizer and it keeps the PH readings somewhat steady over time. It is recommended that PH  and Alkalinity readings are checked weekly with your 5 way test kit.

.Step II: Add chlorine in accordance with the directions on your chlorine container. You are targeting 1.0 to 1.5 ppm of Available chlorine in your swimming pool, these numbers for chlorine appear on your 5 way test kit. For best results check the pool water weekly. This will kill bacteria and prevent algae growth. In summer and hot days the pool will burn more chlorine than cloudy cool days, so add chlorine as needed. If you have a swimming pool chlorine feeder, keep replacing your 3 in trichlor tablets to obtain the desired reading. Also once a season, I recommend adding chlorine stabilizer (cyanuric acid) this will keep chlorine from blowing out of your swimming pool water on hot sunny days.

Step III: Add 1 capful per week of polymeric algaecide (Such as Nuclo Poly 30; Poly 60) per 5000 gallons of water. This will kill green algae and keep other algae from forming in your swimming pool.

Step IV:  Add 1 capful per week of concentrated super clarifier   (such as Nuclo Sparkle Clear™.) per 5000 gallons of swimming pool water weekly. This will prevent cloudiness in your swimming pool water.

IV: Cover Your Swimming Pool

The best way to keep your pool clean from falling leaves and atmospheric  sediment and bugs is to cover your pool when not in use. These are 3 types of swimming pool covers; solar pool covers , all-year pool covers and winter pool covers.

Solar Swimming Pool Covers  They float on top of the pool water and increase the pool temperature up to 10 degrees when there is sunlight. They also block leaves and debris from entering the pool water. These covers just float on surface of your pool water, and for larger pools, the solar roller makes it easier to store your solar cover when not in use.

This is the most ideal summer swimming pool cover.

The All-Year Swimming Pool Cover  These are polypropylene mesh swimming pool covers with cables, turnbuckles and locks. They provide more protection than the solar cover.

The Winter Swimming Pool Cover For above ground swimming pools the all year cover is used in the winter and for in ground or pools with deck area around the entire pool, there are water bags to hold the all year cover down. For in ground pools, there are safety covers that can hold the weight of a person walking on top of them. The safety swimming pool cover has springs that fit into grommets on the end and are screwed into brass anchors  that are installed in your swimming pool deck .

The easiest cover is the retractable automatic pool cover for in ground pools. These automatic swimming pool covers fit on a track straddled on the sides of your swimming pool and open and close with the touch of a button.
